Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a single-screw and a twin-screw extruder?
Single-screw extruders are simpler and more cost-effective, suitable for basic snacks like corn curls. Twin-screw extruders offer wider material adaptability (handling high moisture and oil), better mixing capability, self-cleaning functions, and more consistent product quality for complex puffed snacks and pet food.
Can I produce different shapes of snacks on one processing line?
Yes, you can produce various shapes (such as balls, tubes, sticks, rings, stars, or animals) simply by changing the die (mold) at the end of the extruder barrel. We provide custom die design services to meet your specific product requirements.
What raw materials can be used with your extrusion machinery?
Our equipment is versatile and can process a wide range of raw materials including corn flour, rice flour, wheat flour, soy meal, and other grain powders. For pet food, it can also handle meat meal and bone meal.
What is the typical workflow of a snack food production line?
A standard line typically follows this process: Mixing (raw material preparation) -> Conveying -> Extrusion (cooking and shaping) -> Drying (removing moisture to increase crispiness) -> Flavoring (seasoning with oil and powder) -> Cooling -> Packaging.
How do I choose the right capacity for my factory?
We offer lines with varying outputs, typically ranging from 100kg/h to over 1000kg/h. For startups, a 100-150kg/h line is often recommended. For established manufacturers, we suggest higher capacity twin-screw systems based on your market demand and factory space.
Do you provide installation and commissioning services?
Yes, HSYL provides comprehensive after-sales support. We can send engineers to your factory for installation, commissioning, and staff training. Alternatively, we offer detailed video tutorials and remote online guidance to help you set up the machine to save on travel costs.
What material are the machines made of?
All parts that come into contact with food are made of food-grade Stainless Steel 304 to ensure hygiene and comply with international food safety standards. The frame and motor covers are made of durable carbon steel or stainless steel depending on your budget.
What power supply is required for the machines?
The standard voltage is usually 3-phase, 380V/50Hz. However, we can customize the motors and electrical components to match your local power supply (e.g., 220V/60Hz for the Philippines or Americas, 415V for some African countries).
Is the machine difficult to clean?
Twin-screw extruders have a self-cleaning mechanism, meaning you do not need to disassemble the barrel to clean it after production; the screws clean each other as they rotate. For other parts like the dryer belt and mixer, they are designed for easy wash-down access.
How long is the warranty period?
We generally provide a 1-year warranty for the main machinery components (gearbox, motor, PLC, etc.) starting from the date of installation or arrival at the port. We also provide a free kit of spare parts with the initial shipment.
