A canned beans batch handover should tell the next team what material it has received, what work has been completed and what status applies. A batch number alone may not answer those questions.

Design the handover around the actual preparation route. Keep the record concise enough to use at the transfer while retaining the references needed for traceability and process review.

Link the incoming material to preparation

Record the raw-material lot references and the preparation batch identity. Where material is split or combined, retain the relationship under the plant's approved system. Identify the controlled product and preparation instruction revisions used.

Actual preparation conditions and checks should be recorded in the appropriate approved production records. The handover can reference those records rather than repeating them incompletely.

Include the information the filling team needs

Handover fieldPurpose
Product and batch identityConnect the material to the intended product and records
Preparation completedIdentify the operations performed and their record references
Material quantity and locationSupport an identifiable physical transfer
Release or hold statusShow whether the material is authorized for the next stage
Filling instruction referenceIdentify the applicable product, container and medium basis
Exceptions and ownershipMake unresolved issues and the responsible decision-maker visible

Do not use a checklist tick as a substitute for missing evidence. If the material is held, the physical identification and record should agree.

Handle partial transfers and interruptions

Define how staff record a partial batch moved to filling while another part remains in preparation. Retain destination and remaining-material references so that the record can be followed in both directions.

If production is interrupted, follow the approved plant procedures for material control. This article does not establish universal holding times or authorize the use of material after an interruption.

Test the record before routine use

Walk a representative batch through the canned beans line route. Ask the receiving team to identify the product, status and supporting records without relying on verbal memory. Revise ambiguous fields before adopting the form.

Use the canned beans project guide for the wider scope and the vegetable production flow guide for downstream handoffs. A useful record makes the material's identity and readiness clear at the moment responsibility changes.
